04Rural electrification

Start > Technology > Rural electrification

There are 1,600 million people in the world who do not have access to electric power in their homes, an amount that represents over 23% of the world population. In general, these are rural areas which, due to their geographic locations and low population density, are more largely affected by not having access to electric power and therefore, need solutions of isolated generation.

Renewable energies can play a very important role in isolated generation. TECH4CDM envisages the use of solar photovoltaic energies, biomass, small hydro, wind and polygeneration for the promotion of rural electrification in two countries featured by a very varied relief and where consequently, the electric power supply is not always easy. The project will focus its activities of rural electrification in:

The European technological partner in this work programme is the European Photovoltaic Industry Association (EPIA).
