Wind energy is one of the renewable energies that are undergoing greater development. The breakthrough in technological improvements, the development of favourable regulations to introduce them and the existence of a large wind potential still to be exploited, among other reasons, have favoured the increase in the exploitation of wind energy.
The European Union (EU) has the largest percentage of installed capacity with 53.67% of the world’s total, followed by North America, with 22.76% and Asia, with 20.14% of installed capacity. Within the EU, in late 2008, the countries leading the total installed capacity were Germany (23,903 MW) and Spain (16,754 MW).
